The Pier, five generations and seven structures
There has been a pier in front of Old Orchard Beach since 1898. The current structure, built 1980 after the prior pier was destroyed in a 1978 storm, is the seventh in the line.

First pier (1898)
Original 1,770-foot Pier opened June 1898. Featured a casino, dance hall, and bowling alley at the seaward end. Destroyed by fire in 1907.
Successor structures
Rebuilt in 1907 (storm-damaged 1909), again in 1909, again after subsequent storms. The 1937 Pier survived until the Blizzard of 1978 destroyed the seaward half. The current 475-foot pier opened in 1980.
Today
Privately owned, publicly accessible. Hosts year-round restaurants and bars at the head, plus weekly summer concerts. The launching point for Town fireworks every Thursday in summer.
