Current makeup

Five councilors serve at-large, meaning every voter in OOB votes on every seat. Terms are staggered so one or two seats turn over each year and the body keeps continuity. The chair is selected by the councilors themselves at the first meeting after each election.

For the current member roster, photos, and contact emails, see the official page at oobmaine.com/board/town-council/. Names change after each November election, so we link rather than list to avoid stale data.

How they are elected

Council elections are held each November. Three-year staggered terms mean one or two seats are on the ballot each year. Anyone registered to vote in OOB and meeting the residency requirement can run; nomination papers are picked up at the town clerk's office and require a small number of resident signatures.

Recent council priorities

Four issues have dominated the agenda over the last twelve to eighteen months.

  • Short-term rental ordinance review, including registration, inspection cycle, and density caps.
  • Comprehensive plan update, with the first draft now in public review.
  • Dune restoration, coordinated with state and FEMA after recent storm damage.
  • Town Manager search following the prior manager's departure.

Notable recent decisions

The Mobile Home Rent Stabilization debate drew the largest public turnout of the past year, with multiple workshops and a contested council vote. The lodging-to-condo conversion ordinance under Chapter 78 set new conditions for converting motel and hotel units to year-round condominiums, including parking, density, and traffic-study requirements.

How to attend or speak at a meeting

Regular meetings are typically held twice a month on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 1 Portland Avenue. Public comment is taken near the start of the meeting and again on each agenda item before the vote. There is no sign-up sheet for general comment in most meetings; just step to the podium when the chair opens the floor and state your name and street.

Bring a one-page handout if you have data. Agendas are posted three to five days in advance.
