Senior resources in Old Orchard Beach

Maine's $25K Homestead Exemption, Property Tax Fairness Credit, Good Morning OOB program, and other support programs for OOB seniors.

Updated May 2026

Maine Homestead Exemption

$25,000 exemption from assessed value on your primary residence. File with the OOB Town Assessor by April 1 of the year you want it applied. Saves a primary-resident homeowner roughly $275, $430 per year at OOB's effective rate.

Property Tax Fairness Credit

Refundable state income tax credit up to $2,500 for taxpayers age 65+ (lower for under-65). Income-based; claimed on your Maine income tax return. Stacks with the Homestead Exemption.

Veterans Exemption

Stacks with Homestead. Roughly $6,000 reduction in assessed value for qualifying veterans. Apply with the OOB Assessor with DD-214 documentation.

Property Tax Stabilization (monitor LD 1144)

A proposed program in the Maine Legislature would freeze property tax bills for owners 65+ in their primary residence. Status changes by session, confirm with the assessor before assuming you qualify.

Good Morning OOB program

Free daily check-in by the OOB Police Department for elderly and isolated residents. If you don't answer, an officer comes by. Application is on the police department page through oobmaine.com.

MaineHealth primary care

MaineHealth primary care offices serve OOB and Saco. Same network as MMC Biddeford and MMC Portland; records flow directly to specialists.

Senior centers nearby

Active senior centers in Saco and Biddeford host meals, programs, and transportation. Both are within 10 minutes.

Aging in place resources

PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) and the Maine Office of Aging and Disability Services coordinate home-based support, transportation, and care management.

Snowbird resources

Many OOB seniors winter in Florida. See snowbird overview and Maine to Florida for the financing and tax mechanics.
