Pets and dog rules in OOB
Town Code Ch. 26 governs dogs on the beach. Year-round leash law applies on all public ways.
Updated May 2026
Beach hours
June 15, September 15: no dogs on the beach 10 a.m., 6 p.m. Outside those hours and outside that date range, leashed dogs allowed.
Leash & cleanup
Year-round leash law on all public ways. Cleanup mandatory; dog waste bag stations at most beach access points.
Licensing
Maine state law: dogs 6+ months must be licensed annually with the Town Clerk. Free if spayed/neutered with proof; $11 otherwise (rates set by state).
Dog-friendly off-season
October through May, OOB beach is a major regional off-leash-friendly destination (still leash law, but enforcement is informal in winter).
