Surfside Beach

OOB's surfing pocket. Larger waves on south wind days. Active windsurf scene.

Updated May 2026

Where it sits

Between OOB proper to the south and Grand Beach to the north. The most exposed pocket of the seven-mile beach.

Surf conditions

Saco Bay focuses south-wind swell into Surfside. The most consistent break in OOB. Waves typically 2, 4 ft on a good summer day, occasionally bigger during fall storm cycles.

Surf community

Active longboard and windsurf community. Lessons available seasonally through local schools and outfitters out of OOB and Saco.

Beach access

Direct from Surfside Avenue and adjacent residential streets. Public access points throughout the neighborhood.

Parking

Limited summer street parking; most spots are residential-permitted. Plan for an early arrival or use the larger Kinney Shores lot and walk north.

Best for

Surfers, windsurfers, and intermediate swimmers comfortable with shore break. Less ideal for very small children on big-wave days.

Surf shops and rentals nearby

Seasonal rentals are available in OOB and through Saco-based shops. Most carry boards, leashes, wetsuits (you'll want a 4/3 in early season), and SUPs.

Surf etiquette

Standard rules apply: outside surfer has priority, don't drop in, paddle around the lineup not through it. Lineups can get crowded on the best swell days.
