Surfing in OOB

OOB isn't a hardcore surf town, but it has a real local scene, soft beach break, longboard-friendly, best on south and southeast swells, with three named breaks inside town and several more within 20 minutes.

Breaks

Surfside Avenue (most consistent on south swell), Pier-area sandbars (sometimes works on a clean north swell), Grand Beach (works on bigger south swells, less crowded). Best swell window August through October.

Conditions

Average wave 2, 4 ft, occasional 6+ on hurricane swells. Water temp 38°F (winter) to 65°F (late summer), 4/3 wetsuit minimum spring/fall, full hood/booties December, April.

Local rules

Surf during posted hours; lifeguards may flag-out the water if conditions are unsafe. No surf zones aren't formally designated but locals respect the lifeguard-stand zone (no shortboards near swimmers).
