Grades and enrollment
Jameson serves Pre-K through grade 2 with roughly 178 students. The student-teacher ratio runs about 9 to 1, which is on the smaller end for Maine elementaries and is one of the more visible reasons families choose to live in OOB rather than a neighboring district.
Test data
Recent state testing shows math proficiency in the 40-49% range and reading proficiency in the 40-49% range. Those numbers are typical for primary grades, where formal proficiency testing first applies and where the spread tends to narrow by grade 3 at Loranger.
Programs and clubs
Jameson runs an early-literacy focus across the full Pre-K through 2 span, with art, music, physical education, and library on a weekly rotation. Before- and after-school programming partners with the OOB Recreation department for child care wraparound.
Food and nutrition services
RSU 23 Food and Nutrition Services provides breakfast and lunch daily following USDA guidelines, with reduced and free options based on household qualification. Menus and online lunch payment are posted on rsu23.org.
Transportation
RSU 23 buses serve every OOB neighborhood, including Grand Beach, Kinney Shores, Ferry Beach, Surfside, Ocean Park, and downtown. Route assignments and pickup times are confirmed at the start of each school year through the district transportation office.
PTO and Boosters
The Jameson PTO runs family events, classroom support, and seasonal fundraisers. Meetings are open and posted on the school site each month.
Registration process
New families register through the central RSU 23 registration office. Required documents include proof of OOB residency, the child's birth certificate, immunization records, and prior school records if any. Pre-K seats are limited and may use a lottery in oversubscribed years.
Seagull Foundation support
The Seagull Foundation funds classroom grants and student programs across all three RSU 23 schools, including Jameson. Teachers apply each year for grant cycles supporting reading materials, supplemental supplies, and field trips.
